Israeli Media Says West Bank Is a "Powder Keg"
The occupied West Bank is sitting on a "powder keg that could explode at any moment" amid the escalation of Israeli settler attacks, according to an official cited by Haaretz. Military sources also point to a "paralysis" in the chain of command, with officers avoiding harsher measures against settlers for fear of consequences to their careers.
The warning comes after new attacks in Qusra, south of Nablus, where settlers blocked roads and stoned Palestinian homes. The Israeli Army decided to reinforce its troops in the region, while security sources stated that the events in Qusra represent only "the tip of the iceberg" of a phenomenon spreading across the West Bank.
Settler violence has intensified since October 2023. According to the data presented, between October 7, 2023, and June 30, 2026, 12,506 settler attacks were recorded, killing 52 Palestinians and causing 890 fires against Palestinian property and crops.
