Syria, until when?

I vehemently condemn the crimes committed against the Alawite community in Syria by extremist Sunni groups. The persecution and murders targeting this minority are barbaric acts that must be repudiated and punished, just like the crimes committed by the Assad family's regime over more than five decades of oppressive rule.

The future of Syria cannot be in the hands of either violent and extremist factions—some of which had ties to the Islamic State—or a minority elite that ruled with an iron fist. The country needs a new path, built by Syrians of goodwill, capable of offering hope and justice to all, regardless of their ethnic origin or religious belief.

Syria cannot be held hostage by the past. Justice must be served for all victims, and national reconstruction must be based on respect for human dignity and the right to life for all Syrian citizens.

We, Arabs, need to start over from scratch... everything! As one of the most important Arab intellectuals, the Syrian Michel Aflaq, once said:"Arabs need to forget what they have learned in order to return to their pure original nature."
